25. The first HAVER-ROTO-PACKER COMPACT

In April 1960, Haver & Boecker fitters installed the first ROTO-PACKER at the Phönix cement works.

It worked so well straight away that it quickly became a famous name in the global cement industry. Whenever a round packer was mentioned later, the neutral term round packer was no longer used – but instead the HAVER & BOECKER brand ROTO-PACKER. This fact and the great sales successes did not let Haver & Boecker’s competitors rest. For example, two copies of the new HAVER filling machine were produced in Italy. This meant that Haver & Boecker’s Research and Development Department didn’t have the chance to find a moment’s rest. It took such increased competition as an opportunity to develop a new ROTO-PACKER – taking into account all the improvements made in recent years. This involved a lot of parts that had already proven themselves in stationary packing machines. After intensive development work, the first HAVER ROTO-PACKER COMPACT was put into operation at the Phönix cement works in Beckum in January 1975. It replaced the very first ROTO-PACKER from April 1960.

The Haver COMPACT packer was above all distinguished by its lower construction height of 1.85 meters. The diameter was reduced from 2 meters to 1.60 meters. Instead of the previous 1:1 weigher beams, a new 1:10 weighing system was installed. Finally the COMPACT packer also received the pneumatically controlled slide valves for full and fine feed, which had already been successfully installed on hundreds of spouts in stationary packing machines.

The lower design was only possible thanks to the construction of a new filling box. This proved to be so efficient during commissioning that Haver & Boecker was able to achieve an output of 2000 bags/h for the new COMPACT system with 6 filling spouts, which is considered standard in the global cement industry. The new standard packer 6 RVC was born and replaced the previous model 8 RV.
