The venue was carefully chosen so that the participants could return home as quickly as possible. This was particularly important for Wolfgang Haschke, as he had promised his wife that he would be leaving for his vacation in Bavaria at 8 a.m.sharp the next morning.
The event took its course. At 4 p.m. it started to snow lightly. The meeting continued. When it finally came to an end, the two Gentlemen refueled and took to the highway. By now it was dark. It was still snowing. Gradually, the snowfall became heavier. It wasn't long before traffic ceased. Trucks were parked across the carriageway and traffic came to a standstill. Fortunately, the car had auxiliary heating. The two of them decided to take a nap.
Hour after hour passed until someone knocked on the window: “The highway has been cleared for a quarter of an hour, please drive on,” a friendly man asked them. The two continued their journey on the “Sauerland line”. After a long night, they finally arrived in Oelde at 7.55 a.m. - just in time for Wolfgang Haschke to keep his promise: A few minutes later, he was back in the car and driving back the same route - with his wife at his side.
